The Department of Pathology has developed this directory for use by the health care professional as a reference to its services, procedures and appropriate utilization, for the betterment of health care delivery. The Laboratory is fully accredited by the College of American Pathologists, American Association of Blood Banks, Joint Commission of Accredited Hospitals Organization and the Health Care Financing Administration.

The alphabetical test listing contains specific information for each laboratory test as well as how the test is named in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for ordering purposes, are included. Specific information on what specimens to collect and how to collect them is part of each test listing. Availability of the test is described with respect to when the test is performed, whether it is available STAT, and what the expected turnaround time is for results for both a routine and STAT order. A minority of tests listed in the directory are referred to another laboratory and this is so noted in the test listing. The laboratory subsection performing each test is also noted. Questions about the test may be referred to the section technical personnel or medical director. Where appropriate, the reference ranges describe the “normal values” associated with the test. The test interpretation section conveys information on what the test results mean and how they should be utilized. This section may also describe other tests that will or should be performed as a consequence of the specific test results.
